EU regulations

While there are no standard EU regulations governing sun protection, there are a number of recommendations in place relating to UVA claims on sunscreen products.
According to the EU recommendations, the UVA factor must be at least one-third of the SPF factor, with a critical wavelength of 370 nm. Products that meet this requirement are allowed to bear the round UVA protection logo on their packaging. Sunday Brush meets this requirement.

Products with UVA protection

All-natural mineral sunscreens that contain the physical filters titanium dioxide and zinc oxide offer adequate protection against both UVA and UVB radiation.
Sunday Brush contains both of these ingredients that protect against the harmful effects of UVA radiation and is suitable for daily use. Sunday Brush also contains a sun protection factor of 50 (SPF 50), which protects against UVB radiation.

The difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen

Sun protection is available in many variants; sun creams, sun milk, sun lotions and even sun sprays. They are all variants of sun protection and often differ in use and ease of application. The latest variant of sun protection is sunscreen powder. A sunscreen powder with SPF that protects against the daily harmful UV rays.

All these different products can be divided into two types of sun protection: Physical protection, also known as mineral sun protection, and chemical sun protection.

There is a big difference between mineral sun protection and chemical sun protection. Below we briefly explain what the big difference is.

What does SPF mean?

SPF stands for ‘sun protection factor’ and is used in Europe and the United States to indicate how well the sunscreen protects against UVB rays. The higher the number, the better the protection against UVB radiation,which can penetrate deeply into the skin and cause sunburns.

What’s the difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50?

• SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays
• SPF 30 blocks 96.7% of UVB rays

As you can see, the difference between SPF 50 and SPF 30 is less than 2%. SPF 30 allows about 3% of rays through while SPF 50 allows about 2% of rays through. This may not seem like much of a difference until you realise that SPF 30 allows 50% more UV radiation onto your skin than SPF 50

SPF 30 and up is considered a high sun protection factor. It offers sufficient protection against UVB radiation and helps prevent sunburns and skin damage.

However, it’s important to reapply sunscreen every two hours to ensure adequate protection. If you plan on swimming or exercising in the sun, reapply sunscreen every 80 minutes to make sure your skin is protected.

What is UV radiation? We’ve been hearing a lot about the importance of protecting our skin from the sun. UV protection is a popular topic online and in beauty, lifestyle, and health magazines, particularly in the summer months. This increased coverage is great, as daily UV protection is important.

UVA-radiation

UVA radiation has the same strength throughout the year. While you can’t feel UVA radiation, it penetrates deeper into the skin and causes skin damage.

The A in UVA stands for ageing. UVA radiation can penetrate cloud cover, which means it can damage the skin even on cloudy and overcast days.

UVA radiation can also penetrate windows and clothing, which is why it’s important to protect your skin every day, even when indoors. Your face tends to get the most sun exposure and therefore the most radiation exposure. This is particularly true for people who drive a lot or work in a home or building with lots of windows.

While you can’t feel UVA radiation, it does penetrate more deeply into the skin, causing wrinkles, premature ageing, pigmentation spots, and skin cancer.

The difference between UVA and UVB radiation

“In addition to UVA radiation, we are also exposed to UVB radiation.

This type of radiation is what causes our skin to tan.
The B in UVB stands for burn. These rays can be felt and are associated with sunburn and skin cancer. UVB radiation is largely blocked by clouds, windows, and clothing.”

The main difference between UVA and UVB radiation is that UVA radiation is present year-round while UVB radiation is only present on sunny days. UVA radiation penetrates the skin more deeply, causing wrinkles and skin ageing. UVB radiation is responsible for producing sunburn.

It’s important to protect your skin daily against the harmful effects of UV radiation, which can cause sunburn, skin ageing, and in some cases skin cancer. You should protect your skin every time you go outside, not just when you go to the beach or plan on spending all day in the sun.
