The difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen
Sun protection is available in many variants; sun creams, sun milk, sun lotions and even sun sprays. They are all variants of sun protection and often differ in use and ease of application. The latest variant of sun protection is sunscreen powder. A sunscreen powder with SPF that protects against the daily harmful UV rays.
All these different products can be divided into two types of sun protection: Physical protection, also known as mineral sun protection, and chemical sun protection.
There is a big difference between mineral sun protection and chemical sun protection. Below we briefly explain what the big difference is.
Chemical sunscreen
Absorbs and converts
Chemical sunscreen is absorbed into the skin, where it breaks down UV radiation and converts it into heat. These chemical filters have to be absorbed by the skin before they can offer UV protection, which means you have to apply chemical sunscreen at least twenty minutes heading out into the sun.
Chemical sunscreen is more likely to cause skin irritation and allergic reactions.
Mineral sunscreen
Blocks and reflects
Mineral sunscreen works like a shield, forming a protective barrier on the skin and reflecting harmful UV rays. This type of sun protection works immediately after application.
Mineral sunscreens are not absorbed into the skin, which makes them less likely to cause irritation. Because they sit on top of the skin, mineral sunscreens are highly suitable for sensitive skin.
Mineral SPF powder
Powdered mineral sunscreen
A mineral SPF powder forms a protective barrier on the skin that reflects UV radiation. Most mineral sunscreens tend to leave a white cast on the skin, as the active ingredients are white.
